Have you ever wondered how often you should flip or rotate your mattress? Below you will find some important information that will help to extend the lifespan of your mattress.

It is always advisable to flip or rotate your mattress, some mattresses can do both. By doing this, you’ll get to sleep on a different area of the mattress ensuring that there is no sagging in areas which are slept on the most.

How to Rotate your Mattress

Rotating your mattress is when the mattress is turned180 degrees, meaning the head of the mattress is now at the foot-end. Rotating does not involve flipping, so you will still be sleeping on the same surface of the mattress.

How to Flip your Mattress

Flipping your mattress means turning it over, allowing you to sleep on the other side of the mattress. To flip and rotate your mattress you would rotate it 90 degrees, so that it hangs over one end. Raise the mattress on its edge, and lower the mattress over so that the other side is face up. Turn the mattress 90 degrees further.

Rotation

Because we sleep on the same mattress every night, the weight of our bodies will eventually cause wear and tear and unevenness, especially the area around the head, shoulders and hips. By rotating your mattress, you will ensure that the mattress remains even, supportive, hygienic and in a good condition.

You should rotate your new mattress at least every 3 to 6 months, older mattresses should be done every 3 months.

Flipping

Mattresses with identical construction on both sides should be flipped every six months, this will allow even distribution of the filling. Rotating the mattress at the same time will boost your comfort.

Not all mattress can be flipped, layered mattresses should only be rotated. Flipping a layered mattress to the wrong side up will damage the soft layer and leave you sleeping on a hard surface that will cause pain and discomfort.

Flipping or rotating will extend the life of your bed and create a better, more functional sleeping surface.
