A clean bedroom makes for a great night’s rest. Herewith a few tips on how to clean your bedroom leaving it presentable and refreshed.

Your bedroom is your haven whether large or small, it is where you go to relax, rest and recharge. By following these ceiling-to-floor cleaning tips you’ll leave your bedroom pleasant, fresh and clean.

Let’s start with the Ceiling Fan, yip we do sometimes forget this one… While turned off, I would say give it a quick dust off. Now, with a cleaning cloth or paper towel moistened with an all-purpose cleaner gently wipe the blades from center to tip. Try and give your ceiling fan a good dust as least once a week. To prevent dust falling onto the bed or carpet, place an old towel or cloth on the surface.

Cleaning your walls and Artwork, using a duster with an extendable handle you should be able to reach all the corner getting rid of those pesky spiderwebs too. Gently dust your picture frames as you don’t want them swinging out of place and mar the walls. Never spray glass cleaner directly onto the glass of your artwork as this can seep in around the corner and damage your art. Rather spray glass cleaner onto a cloth or paper towel and gently wipe the glass.

For stubborn stains on your wall or just a general deep clean, mix 1 cup of baking soda, 1 cup of white distilled vinegar, and 1/2 cup of ammonia into a gallon of warm water. Dampen a cloth or sponge with this mixture and wipe down the walls and woodwork. Never mix bleach with ammonia.

Lamps, make sure they are turned off and the globes are cold, use a soft cloth or duster and wipe the base of your lamp including the globe. Use a lint roller or brush to remove dust of your fabric lamps.

Let’s move on to the furniture. Remove all items from the tops of your dresser, shelves, bookshelves and nightstands and any other flat surface needing to be cleaned. First give it a good dusting, top to bottom and don’t forget the sides and feet.

Armed with your furniture cleaner, appropriate for glass, wood or plastic, moistened a thin cloth and get into the fluting, carvings and fine crevices. Don’t forget to give the fronts where fingerprints linger an extra good wipe. To maintain your wooden furniture, you can rub on furniture oil or polish, wipe then buff to get that final shine.

Mirrors, how to get that streak free look. Spritz some glass cleaner onto a lint-free cloth or paper towel and wipe it down, else use some crumpled up newspaper dipped in distilled white vinegar, wipe it down until it begins to dry, give it a final wipe with dry newspaper to get a perfectly streak free mirror.

Now onto your bed. Strip off all the linen, this you can do at least twice a week. Wash in hot water or as recommended on the care label. Upholstered headboards or beds can be cleaned with a lint roller / brush or you can vacuum using the brush attachment this you can also use to vacuum around the edges of the mattress. Don’t forget to vacuum under your bed. Before washing you pillows check the care instruction labels, using a pillow protector is always advisable as it keeps your pillows clean and dust free.

Spot cleaning your mattress, don’t use excessive water as it can cause mold to grow, always make sure your mattress is fully dry before putting the covers back on. To keep your mattress from getting dirty you should always use a mattress protector, that way your mattress will always look new.

Tiled and hardwood floors should be swept and washed weekly make sure you clean under your pedestals, dresser and bed too. Carpets should be vacuumed weekly, make sure you get into all the corners and edges.

Now that the cleaning is done and dusted, you can relax and look forward to a great night’s sleep.
