How to choose the right bed size
Most couples choose a queen (152 × 188 cm). A king (183 cm wide) gives each sleeper about a single bed’s width, and a super king (200 × 200 cm) suits families or a pet on the bed. If anyone is taller than 1.85 m, choose an extra-length (200 cm) size. Our bed sizes guide for South Africa has every size, the room each one needs and how much space each sleeper gets.
Firm, medium or soft?
Back and stomach sleepers usually prefer medium-firm to firm. Side sleepers usually prefer medium to plush, so shoulders and hips can sink in. Heavier sleepers need more support; lighter sleepers often find firm beds too hard. If you are unsure, test a few in store: lie on each one for five minutes in your normal sleeping position. Bed set or mattress only?
A bed set gives you a base made to match the mattress, which keeps the warranty valid and gives the right support. If your base is less than about eight years old and still flat and firm, a mattress on its own may be all you need.
